Goodreads Book Haul

Hey everyone :)

Thought I would do a quick post to show two of the books I have been given to review from two brilliant authors. I am looking forward to reading and reviewing both.

The first book I will be reviewing is The improbability of love by Hannah Rothschild and the second book is Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley.

I shall hopefully have a review up for each book soon :)

I purchased this book on a whim in my local supermarket as I was looking for something light to read that wouldn't need a lot of my concentration. I don't want to give away too much about the storyline as it is quite predictable so I'm keeping this short.. After a telephone call from her fathers partner Liz, Amber flys from London to Australia, leaving her Husband Ned at home, to care for her poorly Father. She catches up with her oldest and closest friends, one being Ethan Lockwood, her first love, although these feelings weren't reciprocated. As the relationship between Amber and Ethan grows, they escalate their feelings to a full blown affair, but although Amber feels guilt for betraying her Husband, she cannot stop the feelings she has for Ethan nor does she have the strength to end the relationship. Amber is tracked down by a lady named Doris, who was the first on the scene of her mothers car accident 30 years ago, where she lost her life. Doris has a message for Amber from her mum that she so desperately wants to tell her. The message that Amber was left by her mother doesn't really have as much of an impact on the storyline as we are led to believe by the blurb. The storyline continues with Amber's relationships with both men becoming strained and she has to make a few big decisions and live with the consequences of her choices...

Overall, this book was okay, it was quite predictable from the start. It was a good easy read that flowed well and was great to pass some time, but it didn't grip me like I thought it would. I was left feeling disappointed as the message relayed to Amber could really have been more substantial and held more depth.

If you are looking for a good book for some holiday reading by the pool or for reading while commuting to and from work, then this book is ideal.

Flashback Friday - Flowers In The Attic by Virginia Andrews

Every week Kirsty and myself will be posting reviews of books we have read before we started this blog. I'm going to kick off our first Flashback Friday series with my all time favourite book, and my all time favourite author - Flowers In The Attic by Virginia Andrews. I cannot tell you how many times I have read this book.

 

The story centres around the Dollanganger children, Cathy, the narrator of the story, her Older Brother Christopher and their younger twin siblings, Carrie and Cory.
The story begins with the children's father dying in a tragic accident and leaving the family penniless, So this prompts their Mother Corrine to take the children back to her parents mansion, where Corrine's father is dying and she is set to inherit his millions, but with one exception, only if she has never had any children with her now late husband. So, the mother and grandmother lock the children in a bedroom in the attic, (with very strict rules) for a few days until the grandfather passes away, but the few days turn into weeks, then months, then years, drawing the children closer than they ever could have imagined. There is an urban legend that this book is based on a true story although this has never been confirmed. But, nevertheless, this is a gripping read, as are the rest of the books in the "Dollanganger" series. I coul talk endlessly about this book, but, I will let you discover it yourself and hope you enjoy reading it as much as I do.

Fractured by Dani Atkins - Reviewed by Kirsty

I have just finished this book and oh my goodness!
Dani Atkins has taken me from the depths of despair to being on top of the world and back again. What an emotional read **Tissues are needed!** The story starts off with Rachel, whose life is in turmoil after a horrific accident in which she loses her longest and bestest friend Jimmy. Fast forward 5 years and Rachel is back in her home town for a friends wedding, but after a fall she is transported to hospital and upon waking she finds that her world has somehow become 'Fractured'..... everything that happened in her life before the fall somehow hasn't happened and everything has changed, she even has a fiance, Matt who also happens to be her ex from 5 years ago and also her best friend Jimmy is no longer dead. Without me giving too much away, we see Rachel come to terms with her 'new' life and also try to discover what went wrong and what happened to her 'other' life...

I honestly cannot fault this book, my only fault is that it wasn't long enough. The storyline held me captive from the very first page but please beware.... DO NOT read the ending in public! I was completely and utterly inconsolable.
